The Baby Chicks Are Finally Here!
What an exciting time for Twin Spring Farm! The long awaited arrival of the baby chicks has finally come. The children have waited so patiently for this day. After charting the days to their arrival, some are now waiting for their chance to hold a newborn baby chick. Ryan and Abby were two of the first students to get their chance. With the assistance of their teacher, Mrs. Markovich, Ryan and Abby took turns holding the babies.
Over the next few weeks, the children will make several visits to Hood Hall to see and hold the baby chicks. Some lucky children will even have the opportunity to take one of the chicks home overnight.
This is such a wonderful experience for all of the Twin Spring Farm children. We are fortunate to be able to share such an amazing experience with our students. Special thanks goes out to Mrs. Whiting for all of her efforts to support this program for our children.

Pre-First Visits Temple Ambler Campus for EarthFest
Our TSF Pre-First students enjoyed Temple University Ambler’s EarthFest 2012. EarthFest is just one of the highly anticipated events at Temple University Ambler. Students from all over the region come together and spend time learning about the environment and the systems on which the lives of people and animals depend. There were so many incredible exhibitors this year. Some of those in attendance were the Philadelphia Zoo, the Franklin Institute, Academy of Natural Sciences, Elmwood Park Zoo and Wondergy. Both Mrs. Fynes and Mrs. Whiting’s classes enjoyed this field trip very much.

TSF School Spirit Soars at the Staff King Pin Game!
When Mrs. Vallaley announced there would be a staff King Pin Game for Spirit Day this year, she had a long list of volunteers who wanted to participate in the event. It was almost as much fun to watch as it was to play!
First, if you have never played King Pin before, let me explain. King Pin is a combination of dodge ball and bowling. Each team member is given a bowling pin and a ball. You must protect your pin at all times by blocking the opposing teams shots. All the while, you too are trying to knock down one of your opponent’s pins. Once you knock down all of the opposing teams pins, you win the game.
The gym was filled with fierce competitors. Mr. Rosa was joined by Mrs. Griffith, Mrs. Krone, Mrs. Donofry, Mrs. Whitcomb and Mrs. Kowey. Mrs. Kowey did not flinch when the opposition tried to take down her pin. Representing the other team were, Mrs. Fynes, Mrs. Magnant, Mr. Seitz, Mrs. Cunningham, Mrs. Genuardi and Mrs. Markovic. Mrs. Fynes did a fantastic job. She helped to keep her pin standing for all three rounds. With cat-like reflexes, Mrs. Fyne’s blocked every attempt by the other team to knock her pin down! Mr. Seitz and Mrs. Donofry had a show down, each one showering the other with as many shots on the pin as they could take. Mrs. Genuardi held her own out there against Mrs. Kowey who was determined to take down every pin in sight! Mrs. Griffith and Mrs. Magnant had a great battle along with Mrs. Markovic and Mr. Rosa. In a word, relentless. Neither side gave up! It was a great game!
As always, the children had fun cheering for their favorite teachers. It was great listening to the elementary students leading the way for the younger children.
Thank you to Mrs. Vallaley for her tremendous effort in coordinating this fantastic Spirit Day event. Thank you to all of the staff volunteers who played and to all of the children to cheered. Overall, a great morning for everyone!
TSF Hosts its Annual Scholastic Book Fair
The Scholastic Book Fair is definitely one of the years most anticipated events. The look on the children’s faces when they entered the gym was priceless.
This years event was a huge success with over $1000 in Scholastic dollars raised. Mr. Stremme’s book of lists was a huge hit! All of the children loved shopping for books together. One of the top selling items this year was a creepy glow in the dark pointer.
On Monday night, at Barnes and Noble in North Wales, the excitement continued. The children were able to purchase books and listen to stories read by Mr. Seitz and Mrs. Griffith.
A big thank you to the Home and School parents who helped to organize and run this incredible event.

TSF Science Night Was a Huge Success!
If you weren’t able to come to the TSF Family Science Night on Friday night, you definitely missed out on all the fun! Mr. Stremme did a wonderful job setting up the gym. Tables lined each side of the room with different science experiments to try. Families were given an instruction booklet when they arrived to help them navigate through all of the experiments. The parents also had a chance to play Mr. Stremme’s scientific version of “Jeopardy!”. The children were on the edge of their seats listening to their parents play the game. It was so much fun!
Here are some highlights from the night!

Have You Filled a Bucket Today?
What is kindness? How do you teach your children how to be kind and thoughtful people and encourage them to use kind words and help others?
Mrs. Cunningham’s class began this lesson by reading the best selling book, “Have You Filled a Bucket Today? A Guide to Happiness for Kids”, written by, Carol Mc Cloud.
The book explains how each of us carries an invisible bucket. We fill our bucket with good feelings when people say something nice to us, smile at us, or help us. When we are kind, we can help to fill the buckets of others. The children also learned that some people are bucket dippers who take the goodness from other people’s buckets.
Mrs. Cunningham created a wall of buckets labeled with the names of her students. Over the course of the week, the children were rewarded for being kind to their classmates. The children did such a fantastic job!
Each child was awarded a certificate with their name and picture of them standing next to their filled bucket on it. The certificates read, “I’m a Bucket Filler!”
What a wonderful lesson!
